It’s never too late to achieve your dreams of becoming a dancer. I started at 19, and I am still learning and growing. I’ve had students start at 30, 40, 70… Most of us have put others before ourselves and now we are making the time to nurture our brains and bodies. I have dealt with illness, injuries, childbirth, and body image, and I can attest that dancing gives you stress relief, energy, grace, vitality, and sensuality. It is a wondrous healer!

My classes will expose you to the dances, music, and culture of the MENAHT (Middle East, North Africa, Hellas, Turkey). I also specialize in technique to reduce injury, building trust in your body through organic movement, and working your creativity using improvisation and dance composition. I take great care to provide detailed instruction and positive critique aimed to refine your dancing and develop your style. The mix of exercises, combinations, lecture, and dance games in each session make you a physically and mentally strong dancer, a dancer who is informed in real-world applications and the cultural and historical relevance of this dance genre.

When it comes to events, my focus is on “edutainment”— learning that is disguised as fun. I have had the pleasure of dancing at all types of events, from small to large, and especially enjoy teaching children and girlfriend gatherings.

Open your mind to experiencing the music and dance of another culture. Reconnect with your body after childbirth, injury, and changes from age. Grow your professional skills. Whatever it is and whatever your level, I would be honored to help you.

With love, Jasmine

Jasmine is an wonderful, well rounded and educated dance teacher. She provides an Excellent learning environment and helps open you up to your own creativity. I will be taking classes with her again! I recommend her for all levels of dancers, she will give beginners a great foundation and can help more experienced dances grow and learn. The class environment is also very friendly and inviting.

DWJ is one of the best Middle Eastern Dance/Dance companies in the city! Jasmine is a beautiful, knowledgeable dancer who is trained in many dance & art forms. Her dance is scintillating, powerful, and respectful of cultural behavior and diversity, which is so important. She continues to offer a wide and varied array of classes and workshops that will entice you and challenge you, but always joyfully take you to that next level of your dance. Though the self-exploration that each class fosters and encourages, you will discover and unlock new aspects of yourself AND the dance that you never dreamed existed. Yes; she’s THAT good!! And though her classes are designed to bring a challenge, Jasmine’s classes are also very beginner-friendly. She always happily takes the time to insightfully personalize and offer suggestions and explanations to those new to the art form. I love, love, LOVE dancing with Jasmine, and am truly becoming a better, and more fit, dancer because of her offerings to the Memphis community. And I have so much more that I look forward to learning from her! Fun, fitness, sisterhood & comraderie, encouragement, challenge, self/exploration, and self-acceptance; these are just a few of the elements that I have found with DWJ. 5 stars!!
